PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY
As a pastor I believe that I am called to “shepherd the flock”. (1 Pet. 5:2-4). Peter’s call is to the elders or church leaders, and the local pastor to lead by example as shepherd. To “shepherd” includes the pastoral care of the membership, but the pastor’s primary task relates to their spiritual welfare and growth. The instructions given by Paul to the “shepherds” (Acts 20 and 2 Timothy 4) are to ensure that the Word is preached faithfully and accurately so that it might accomplish what God intends (Is. 55:11).
VISION FOR FOSTER ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH
My vision for Foster Road Baptist is that we will have an impact upon our community for the glory of Jesus. Christ. We intend to do this by (1) seeking the empowerment of the Holy Spirit through prayer, (2) calling our church family to renew their covenant commitment to God and to each other, (3) seeking ways to engage our community in order to build bridges and ultimately for the sharing of the gospel, and (4) continuing to explore the open doors of opportunity given to us for service. We will continue in the strong tradition of Southern Baptist doctrine and biblical preaching. At the same time, we will probe to find areas of ministry where God may desire to use us for his honor. Same message. Different ways to connect. The effectiveness of our church’s ministry depends upon the Holy Spirit’s power and our willingness to work and to serve – in that order.
